The Reason for the Season

Sometimes thoughts seem a long way off,
and they don’t really make any sense.
My mind seems cluttered with daily life,
my body and thoughts, tired and tense.

My mind is raveled in a giant knot,
which loose end to pull, I don’t know.
Chances are, it can’t get worse,
I have to do something to unlock the flow.

But then, maybe the words were spoken,
beyond my listening ear.
And I was too tired,
to turn my head to hear.

But out of the heart, the mouth speaks,
it is not an audible voice.
Words are implanted by the Holy Spirit,
and are used only by His choice.

They are given for wisdom and inspiration,
as God speaks to us.
He also speaks through the written Word,
and that makes life a plus.

So even when life seems down,
and doesn’t seem to fit.
Receive a Christmas present,
God’s Son, the Perfect Gift.

He’ll lift you by a Mighty Hand,
out of the miry clay.
And set your feet on higher ground,
firmly planted to stay.

So accept the Gift that God offers,
and make this a joyous season.
And after all, we need to remember,
Jesus is the Reason for the Season.

Remember Jesus Christ,
the Solid Rock you stand.
All other ground,
is sinking sand.

My Cemetery Walks

I took a trip to the cemetery,
and used my time to look around.
To my own amazement,
I was surprised at what I found.

Some sat on a bench,
while others had their lunch.
Some were planting flowers,
making such a pretty bunch.

Some others at a grave site sat,
so lonely and depressed.
They seemed to talk to themselves,
yet to others for sure, I guessed.

I walked up to one man,
who sat there by himself.
Put my hand on his shoulder,
and asked him if I could help.

He looked right into my eyes,
and then he began to speak.
He needed a moment to clear his throat,
but his voice seemed rather weak.

But as we continued to talk,
he seemed to gain more life.
He told me he was all alone,
and here lies his son and wife.

We talked a little about the war,
he had me by twenty years.
But he seemed grateful for company,
yet I would have shared his tears.

He made me think of future days,
when I might be sitting there.
Would my shoulder feel a hand,
of someone who might really care.

I need to spend more time,
among the grave sites there.
To walk among the lonely,
and be an instrument of God’s care.

May God, by His Holy Spirit,
guide me along the way.
May my cemetery walks,
inspire and comfort every day.

May my opportunity to share,
comfort many in need.
And many get to know,
Jesus Christ indeed.

Accept the Light, Be Radiant Bright

Peter Baldwin is on holiday vacation. His weekly poem schedule returns soon.

Believe in Jesus Christ,
who died for you and me.
He paid the price for all,
with His Blood at Calvary.

His Blood is just enough,
to cover all of our sin.
Because of His Grace & Love,
one day we will enter in.

A home is laid in Paradise,
paved with streets of gold.
Our mansions are prepared as well,
just as we’ve been told.

We will stand before Him,
and worship all day long.
With hymns of praise,
and other glorious song.

I’m sure you want to be present,
so you must have the Key.
Jesus Christ is the only way,
that salvation will ever be.

Accepting Him as Lord & Savior,
is changing darkness to Light.
By giving Him your heart,
in eternity, you’ll be radiant bright.

I Am the Father’s

I Am the Father’s,
I belong to Him.
Bought and paid,
filled to the brim.

All that He has,
I can claim for me.
Because of my Savior,
who hung on a tree.

He loved me so much,
that He gave me His All.
Filled me with His Spirit,
to help me when I fall.

I am part of a Covenant,
fulfilled by His Word.
He’ll never fail me,
that’s all that we’ve heard.

What we need is provided,
pray, ask, and receive.
It is only a matter,
of what you believe.

Thor Returns

Thor has been very busy,
as busy as a bee.
He’s now involved in government,
the ambassador to Turkey.

He feels that he’s safe,
wherever he goes.
Only Canada celebrates Thanksgiving too,
as everybody knows.

But with a Presidential pardon,
and working for the government.
Thor feel that his future,
is as solid as cement.

But I have news for him,
a pardon can be revoked.
If the President gets upset,
and, for any reason, is provoked.

Thor is getting lonely,
so far away from home.
There are no other turkeys,
he’s distraught and all alone.

His days are very boring,
he needs a change of life.
Maybe he should come home,
and find himself a wife.

He buys himself a ticket,
that’s only good one-way.
When he gets home,
maybe he’ll want to stay.

But now his troubles begin,
because he’s abandoned the embassy.
And the FBI & CIA is looking for him,
behind every rock and tree.

Now the President is involved,
as you knew that he would be.
The President reverses his pardon,
now Thor’s life is in jeopardy.

He cannot turn to union friends,
to help out of this mess.
The day is quickly approaching,
just as you might guess.

His only hope will be to flee,
to avoid the chopping block.
His time is running short,
again, maybe he can beat the clock.

He has a friend to help him,
get out of the country soon.
And if all comes to pass,
he’ll be gone before noon.

No one told him where he was going,
they just promised to help him out.
He was glad to have some help,
and he believed without a doubt.

At least he knew he’d save his neck,
and not be someone’s dinner.
This was better than losing his head,
once again, he felt like a winner.

WHERE DID THOR GO? WHO HELPED HIM? AND WILL HE BE SAFE?

Happy Birthday: A Poem to the Poet

I’ve had a life that is full,
even being stubborn as a bull.
And being seventy-one,
it’s no longer as much fun.

Having grandchildren numbering five,
they’re the best reason to stay alive.
Their laughter and their joy,
much better than any toy.

I’ve had times on a trip,
I just couldn’t get a grip.
Travel just didn’t seem fair,
when Pennsylvania ended in Delaware.

That was so many years ago,
but still I am reminded so.
Sometimes I even get it right,
but that just wasn’t my night.

Life’s been good, even when bad,
it’s been happy even when sad.
There’s been times to shout about,
there’s been times I’ve felt left out.

But through it all, I reached this day,
how many more, I cannot say.
But whatever the Lord decides to give,
I’ll thank Him and do my best to live.

So I’ll enjoy my birthday all year through,
and remember all the things that I can’t do.
Older and weaker as the days go by,
couldn’t I get younger- tell me why!

Full of Thanks

Thanksgiving was a harvest celebration,
for health & an abundant crop.
But as the world changes all holidays,
harvest celebration has come to a stop.

What are we really thankful for?
We should give thanks everyday.
How do we count every blessing,
in everything & in every way?

The world calls it “Turkey Day,”
and football takes center stage.
But is that all we are thankful for?
Listen, while I turn the page.

The Friday after Thanksgiving,
has become one of the biggest of the year.
Black Friday begins Christmas shopping,
& manufacturers wait in fear.

They want the day to show promise,
and not end up in the red.
They are only concerned with profits,
with a Christmas season ahead.

But still, I return to the reason,
we celebrate Thanksgiving day.
God is rich in mercy & grace,
what more do I need to say?

A day of celebration with family & friends,
the blessings we are able to share.
Because God provides everything we need,
when we live & abide in his care.

Let’s forget about Black Friday,
and concentrate on the day at hand.
Thank the Lord for the blessings we have,
all across this wonderful land.
