Face in the Mirror

Have you ever looked in a mirror,
and what did you see?
Was it a reflection of your face,
what else could it be?

A mirror shows a dirty face,
or a messy head of hair.
But that’s not the only thing,
that’s in the mirror there.

If you look past the reflection you see,
it may really amaze you.
Because the God of love is there,
always, in everything we go through.

God wants us to know and see,
we’re the head and not the tail.
When we see God in all we do,
He will conquer when we see fail.

Stand at the mirror and close your eyes,
then tell me what you see.
You are now looking in the Spirit,
and that’s the reason you are free.

We need to look past ourselves,
and remember it’s God and us.
And from the us that people see,
people will see, In God we Trust.

Remember when you look in the mirror,
you do not just see your face.
But you see our loving Savior,
in all His mercy and grace.

Talking with a Friend

Tomorrow, by the time it gets here,
is no longer tomorrow, but today.
I can’t remember what’s happening now,
I just hope the past doesn’t go away.

The only thing I can recall,
is how things used to be.
I just don’t understand the changes,
I don’t fit in and that worries me.

But I found a friend who talks to me,
And we talk about the past and reminisce.
It is good and he understands,
about all the things I miss.

I love to talk about family,
for now, I remember all their names.
And when we have a family gathering,
I still remember how to play some games.

Cards are much more rusty,
I haven’t played in so long.
I’d be embarrassed to sit and play,
Everything would probably go wrong.

There is no magic pill to change a life,
and bring back all that is lost.
But if there was, I’d surely pay,
whatever might be the cost.

One day it will finally happen,
across the earth from land to land.
The final trumpet blast will sound,
and all who know Him will understand.

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow,
the fight for justice and liberty.
All will bow before the King,
for all eternity.

Skye

One day in a hospital,
there was a special cry.
This baby had been born to earth,
and her name was Skye.

She came from a loving family,
one that would take care of her.
She grew up so fast and matured,
it all looked like a blur.

She went to church and praised the Lord,
listened to Him and would abide.
Her love for Him was overwhelming,
the devil had to hide.

Skye, I love you very much,
more than words could say.
Maybe you won’t understand,
but I’ll write you this poem anyway.

Don’t forget that you are good,
your such an amazing sis.
To all your siblings and don’t forget,
your such an amazing gift.

I love you Skye.

It won’t be midnight…

I must be getting old,
my kids are all over 40.
Married, family, and kids,
a thing of beauty.

Happy birthday, Deanna,
it’s been quite a journey so far.
It’s had its ups and downs,
but you came through a shining star.

With age, you gain wisdom,
and you need all you can get.
Because three kids can be hard,
not only three, but also a pet.

But Deanna, you’ve been great,
balancing all of life.
You’ve lived up to all the trials,
a loving mother and terrific wife.

I hope you have a lovely birthday,
when it comes this Wednesday.
May you celebrate the way you want,
making it the most memorable day.

You’re very special in my heart,
and you have a flair for the Word.
It seems like the entire family,
makes the sweetest sound I’ve heard.

I know times are very busy,
but I look forward to seeing you.
This year will not be midnight,
when 41 becomes new.

So happy birthday I say again,
may God richly bless you.
May the day be bright and cheery,
in everything you do.

Ella, “3”

Ella Vivian Goodman is now three,
she is getting bigger, we can see.
As we celebrate this birthday year,
may everyone give roaring cheer.

Ella has given out a pet name,
and not-a-one is the same.
If my name was Bob,
I could understand “nutjob”.

Grandma is very simple,
she calls her “Grammy”, smile and dimple.
Mommy got the name “popcorn”,
puffed or kernel of corn.

Jared she calls “wawa”,
I can’t understand and say “aha”!
Daddy she calls “lima bean”,
but he’s not green- know what I mean?

She also calls me “papa”,
a shorter version of Grandpa.
But this is all part of Ella’s world,
as it’s mixed and twirled.

So as we celebrate age 3,
we’ll see what the future will be.
She’s talking more and running the show,
we follow wherever she will go.

Happy birthday, Ella,
as Grandma calls you “Ella Bella”.
We look forward to year four,
I’m sure we’ll be in for so much more.

9 / █ █

By my grandson, Eric Greco.

It was an average day,
also somewhat fun.
Anticipation was everywhere,
as the World Trade Center was almost done.

People went to work,
kids went out to play.
But soon enough, in time,
there would be nothing to say.

Planes were flying undetected,
known location was none.
Eventually we all would know,
because people began to run.

A plane had hit the North Tower,
so now a plane was found.
But people knew it was no accident,
another plane was inbound.

BOOM!!! went the second plane,
both hit within the hour.
Fear was widely spread around,
it wasn’t just the towers.

An explosion at a government base,
a portion of it was gone.
The government went to DEFCON 3,
the plane had hit the Pentagon.

The South Tower was the second hit,
the North Tower was the first.
What happened next was unbelievable,
it was just the worst.

The South Tower had given way,
could not support the weight.
It collapsed and killed so many people,
they had no escape.

Next was the North to collapse that day,
could not deny it’s fate.
More people died and could not stop,
the group called Al-Qaeda’s hate.

One more plane was set to hit,
the location was unclear.
The plane never hit and here is why,
these people saved many tears.

The passengers knew what was going on,
react was what they would do.
Calling their families and saying good-bye,
these heroes saved me and you.

All of the heroes stormed the cockpit,
hijackers were revealed.
Many tried but could not control,
the plane crashed in a field.

So this I tell you, again and again,
don’t cry and do not let,
the sadness overtake your body,
please NEVER FORGET.

Who is Grandma?

God leads her wisdom,
impressed by God’s heavenly kingdom.
On the path of righteousness,
she offers you nothing less.

Reliable to the very end,
she is our greatest friend.
Always available for every need,
she prays and follows God’s lead.

Attentive to God’s still small voice,
wants always your best choice.
She listens with a caring ear,
always trying to erase all fear.

Negative only when needed,
keeping you from becoming wearied.
Support in everything you do,
she loves and cares so much for you.

Diligent, rigorous, in all her tasks,
passing on from God what she asks.
She is careful about how valuable you are,
her grandchildren are set at a higher bar.

Merciful because God is mercy and love,
and all good things come from above.
She cares for each and every one,
she calls all His daughter and son.

Adorable as grandma with child by her side,
she’s proud in Whom they all abide.
So give to grandma all that’s due,
for all the prayers she offered for you.
