Jen 44

44 comes once in a lifetime,
and it’s to be cherished, as every birthday.
God has blessed all these years,
and it must be no other way.

I’m so glad we can celebrate,
and join in the festive fun.
Birthdays are so very special,
for each and every one.

Birthdays need to have fun and games,
prizes and candy and ice cream cake.
And good thing birthdays come once a year,
because all that celebration is hard to take.

As you reminisce of your younger years,
and see how much you’ve changed.
And realize as you grow,
life is constantly rearranged.

Your life is always improving,
as you grow, day by day.
So take some time and reflect on life,
or get away, you and Jay.

Again, I wish you happy birthday,
may all joy and happiness be yours.
And may all your presents,
be from the heart and score.

It’s Never Too Late

After 72 years of life,
you’d figure I have it all together.
Live my life to the fullest,
and ready to live forever.

Do I consider my life a success?
Not by any means.
Did I ever realize my potential?
I think only in my dreams.

But yet, I believe our potential,
can be reached by more than one event.
Not just because of our habits,
but situations that have come and went.

It’s never too late to change our life,
and push for our potential.
God wants us to invest in life,
put our purpose into actions, living intentional.

Without a vision, a man perishes,
with a vision, he has a future.
And God wants it bright and full,
as we use our talents and mature.

Everyone has their own,
God-given talent and ability.
To be used for Kingdom purposes,
bringing glory to God’s Majesty.

Our lives become more like Jesus,
as we pursue intentional living.
Just as Jesus lived on Earth,
we become more loving and giving.

Our life is lived to the fullest,
and the journey is continual.
then we can see the end result,
living to God’s potential.

And at the final judgment call,
when the life we lived is openly transparent.
We want to hear Jesus say,
“Well done, My good and faithful servant.”

Living in Christ

The same spirit that lives in Christ,
is the same spirit that lives in me.
It came at Pentecost in tongues of fire and power,
it’s part of the blessed Trinity.

God created each and every one of us,
filling each with talent and potential.
But we have our free will of choice,
to live out God’s given credentials.

In every facet of our life,
we never face more than we can bear.
And as a good father to his children,
God is always there.

We need to grow every day,
being fed, from milk to meat.
And on the rock we need to stand,
so one day, face to face in heaven we’ll meet.

God wants only the best for us,
and we are able to attain.
Because God has placed inside,
His power and His Name.

In growing you have to stretch for more,
be positive in what you go through.
Know the beginning and the end,
find good in everything that applies to you.

Do the right thing over and over again,
and the outcome maintains reliability.
You begin to maximize your growth,
you also empower your ability.

What Happened to Thor?

As we approach Thanksgiving,
I can’t help but think of Thor.
I remember the very first time,
he entered the courtroom door.

From being thrown to the floor,
and thrown in jail.
He had not a friend,
to free him with bail.

But with the last-minute plea,
to the President himself.
He received a pardon,
how good it felt!

He gathered all the holiday animals,
and formed a holiday union.
No animal was excluded,
even the despicable Minion.

He left his post in Turkey,
no longer an ambassador.
He needed a change of scenery,
he opened and entered a new door.

The FBI and CIA,
were looking for him at home.
He left his post in Turkey,
now he was all alone.

He knew that hiding was his only safety,
where he was was anyone’s guess.
Life was going along so well,
how did he end up in this mess?

He tried the power of his hammer,
but it didn’t have it’s usual effect.
Life just seemed to go downhill,
no matter what he tried to interject.

But finally he found his place to hide,
it wasn’t comfortable, but it saved his head.
He joined the wild turkeys,
right here in Riverhead.

At least for now, it was a plan,
’til he could come up with something better.
It was cold in the woods,
maybe someone could knit him a sweater.

He has a plan, but he has to wait,
until the new President takes office.
He’ll try for another pardon,
he has a million signatures, that should suffice.

Happy Birthday, Jay!

As leader of the pack,
you have a standard to uphold.
When it comes to my children,
you are considered old.

A sign of wisdom,
is having gray hair.
But when I look at you,
there is nothing there.

Jay might be on to something,
no hair to interfere with the brain.
No rerouting, turns, or stops,
like an express, locomotive train.

You must be wired differently,
to assemble without instructions.
You have a unique ability,
using the powers of deduction.

You’ve gained much knowledge,
in life’s many years.
By listening closely,
with an attentive ear.

You’re a son-(in-law) a dad can be proud of,
serving the Lord and serving others.
Always ready with a helping hand,
in a family of close knit brothers.

Family bonds are covenant in God’s sight,
and we know the importance of our word.
It’s a testimony of who we are,
what we speak and what is heard.

So in all and all,
I wish you happy birthday.
And may the Lord bless you,
in His own special way.

Coffee Can’t Perk You Up

Do you sometimes wake up feeling depressed,
and wonder why you got out of bed.
Not knowing why you feel this way,
and everything is spinning inside your head.

You think that maybe coffee,
if you make it strong, will perk you up.
Will somehow erase the fog,
but life is not found in a cup.

There are times in life’s journey,
when living life just doesn’t seem fair.
It seems so impossible to understand,
and so easy to say, “I just don’t care.”

But is life really so difficult,
such a burden for us to bear?
But are we looking through a fog,
and not seeing what’s really there?

The start of life came,
from God’s Word and Hand.
Everything that was made was made,
throughout this wonderful land.

God was in control,
from that very first day.
And after all of this time,
he still is in control today.

God knows our every need in life,
He knows the beginning from the end.
He is faithful, true, and forgiving,
He is more than our best friend.

He knows everything that we face,
and says His Grace is sufficient for us.
He’s given us talent and potential,
and we need to given him trust.

God wants us to have success,
and be the best we can be.
So don’t let depression hold you down,
God’s broken every chain and set us free.

So perk up and put a smile on your face,
let people see your Jesus glow.
It’s catchy and can change a life,
and cause the family of God to grow.

Languages Around The World

So many dialects in the language tree,
so many spoken around the world.
When you spread them out, they’re easy to see,
like the patterns of a rug unfurled.

First comes French, quite the Romantic type,
it’s hard to speak, but beautiful when spoken.
After a few weeks’ time, you’ll feel the hype,
you can hold conversation, even if broken.

Spanish is similar in more than one way,
it’s also Romantic like its sibling, Portuguese.
You can learn either, starting today,
and in a few months, you can speak with ease.

Or, opt for the French and Spanish mix,
Catalan of Catalonia, with an epic flag to match.
Finally, there’s Italian, the language of 85 million and six,
add in langs like Occitan, rounding out the Romance batch.

Next comes German, Germanic Branch CEO,
with clean-cut syllables and plenty of “z”‘s.
Or maybe Swiss is the way to go,
language of the land of mountains and cheese.

There’s also Dutch, language of the Netherlands,
a twin of Afrikaans, spoken in Africa.
Learn either and you’ll make new friends,
from Benelux to Suriname, South America.

Don’t forget Welsh and Irish,
spoken by just over 2 million combined.
So many accents and pronunciations to relish,
beautiful languages of course, no need to remind.

Scandinavian langs are in this branch too,
Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and Icelandic.
By all means learn them, but whatever you do,
don’t learn them together, it’ll make you frantic.

We haven’t forgotten the real Germanic king.
which is the one and only English.
It’s big and bold and does its own thing,
but from it you can learn any language you wish.

Moving on, we come to the branch of Slavic,
with foreign alphabets and syllables so strange.
Us English speakers think these langs cause havoc,
but they’re just like the others, albeit a minor change.

Russian is the most well known,
Belarusian, Ukrainian, and Serbian come next.
All of them are purely homegrown,
the same as other langs, sans a Latin text.

Also included in this group,
is Polish, Slovak, and Czech.
They’re also a part of the language soup,
just don’t mix them, you’ll be a wreck.

We now say “dasvidaniya” to these as we move on, pronto,
to loners like Armenian and Greek.
There’s also the conlang Esperanto,
the easiest of them all to speak.

Next is the Semitic branch, home to langs of the Middle East,
the biggest of these is Arabic, considered to be hard.
It’s said that even natives aren’t fluent, at least,
so watch your verbs, be on your guard.

Hebrew is also a part of this section,
native to Israel, with 5 million speakers.
Amharic and Aramaic are included in the collection,
chock-full of history for language seekers.

In the Turkic branch, we must mention a few,
like Azerbaijani and Turkish.
Uzbek and Turkmen are another two,
tiny languages to learn, should you wish.

Indic languages are next in line,
the Iranian ones specifically.
Persian, Kurdish, and Pashto are a few, that’s fine,
mainly spoken in Iran, generally.

You’ll find Sanskrit languages residing here too,
Hindi and Bengali are the biggest by far.
Popular also are Punjabi and Urdu,
but speak all four at once and you’ll seem bizarre.

Almost finished now, we come to Sino-Tibetan,
home of the mighty Mandarin Chinese.
Cantonese is another variety we must get in,
and it’s also important to mention Burmese.

Austroasiatic is yet another type,
home to Vietnamese and Khmer.
There are some others in this language pipe,
too many to mention, but interesting, we swear.

In Oriental Asia, we find two big loners,
Korean and Japanese, each with their own family.
Combined, these two have 200 million owners,
two of the biggest languages in all humanity.

We’ve now concluded our language tour,
bringing our poem to an end.
Perhaps one day you’ll make a detour,
and use language to make a new friend.
