When Signed Below

The Fourth of July,
the start of our country.
The place everyone came,
that wanted to be free.

Rockets galore,
bombs bursting in air.
Rides and games,
at the county fair.

It lights up the sky,
a festive jubilee.
Sight and sound,
all for free.

Sometimes the sounds,
remind us of war.
And we get a chill,
down to our core.

Then we remember,
we’re home and free.
Let us celebrate,
my family and me.

Celebrate with family,
or do it alone.
But you must come,
you can’t stay home.

Celebrate a day of victory,
from a long, long time ago.
The Declaration of Independence,
freedom, when signed below.

Let us rejoice,
how God has blessed this land.
Let us return to roots,
we started and we’re able to understand.

Hearing God

God gives talent,
to each and every one.
To be used for glory,
and lead to His Son.

When God speaks to us,
we must have an attentive ear.
Because, through the Holy Spirit,
it’s a still, small Voice we hear.

When we spend the time with Him,
we only recognize God’s Voice.
Because time with God is so important,
it’s up to us to make that choice.

We must invest much time and prayer,
but not asking what we think we need.
The main point is getting to know our Father,
and grow what He planted inside- the Seed.

The more time we spend in our presence,
the better we will know and hear Him.
It will make our light so much brighter,
and never worry about growing dim.

If we want to follow Jesus,
we must listen carefully for His Voice.
When we hear, He knows us, and we follow,
but me must make that choice.

Jesus lived by what the Father Said and Did,
that’s the ministry to share with our brothers.
“Come to Me so I can be to you,
what I was in the past others.”

Without knowing God and hearing His Voice,
many of his promises are not ours to hold.
We must accept God and know God,
someday we’ll walk on streets of gold.

God is not known by our works,
but by reading, praying and listening.
Time spent in fellowship with God,
will bring us life everlasting.

FATHER

Faithful portrait of our father,
trying always to do his best.
Spending daily time in prayer,
on behalf of the family, making requests.

Always on his knees before the Lord,
praying daily with kids in bed.
Then the prayer time, with his wife,
to rest in peace, with a clear head.

Teaching his children,
to trust and obey.
To have an anchor,
when they need to pray.

Holding out hope,
that they understand.
And one day to choose,
to live for the Promised Land.

Eternal values your father imparts,
seeds planted within the heart.
Watered and nurtured, one day to grow,
a holy life that is set apart.

Remain and abide in all God’s Love,
remember daily to seek God and pray.
The Lord knows our very needs,
and He supplies all, day by day.

Katherine Is Seven!

This poem is dedicated to my granddaughter Katherine, who turns 7 this week.

Little girls,
continue to grow.
Getting bigger,
from head to toe.

Daily, they change,
but we don’t always see.
And before you know it,
they’re smarter than we.

They grow up so different,
than we did in the past.
Celebrating a birthday,
seems to last and last.

Grades and school,
just come and go.
When we were in school,
it went sooooooo slow.

But as we celebrate,
each birthday with cheer.
We look to the future,
getting older each year.

But each and every year,
has its very own charm.
And on June 15th,
we’ll sound the alarm.

The special day,
is finally here.
Seven is the number,
God’s favorite, by year.

So may God bless you,
as you celebrate today.
With all of your family,
in your own special way.

Looking for a future bright,
Grandma & Grandpa enjoy watching you grow.
May God open doors of, “Yes!”
and close the doors of, “No!”

Happy Birthday, we love you,
let us pray.
That all is possible,
for you today.

A Woman Is God’s Gift

The beauty of a rose,
is something to behold.
It’s more radiant,
than refined gold.

For as a man travels,
through this part of life.
He needs his gift,
a godly wife.

She’s the compliment,
that makes a home.
For man wasn’t meant,
to be alone.

She is the hair,
that makes two a pair.
A partner for life,
to cherish and share.

She is your warrior,
as you face each day.
She is the faithful one,
who continues to pray.

Yet we need to join,
and pray together.
We may still face,
some stormy weather.

So find us, dear Lord,
in unity and prayer.
That we always remember,
we are in your care.

I don’t thank You enough,
for all that You do.
Lord, daily remind me,
to tell her, “I love you.”

Memorial Day: The Last Monday in May

A day of tribute, honor, & prayer,
to all those who left something there.
Not only those who gave it all,
but also those who saw one fall.

Those who were there and lost a friend,
have a memory that will never end.
Not only today, but everyday,
they take time to stop and pray.

War is tragedy that you can’t explain,
nobody knows who is to blame.
The price we pay is way too high,
especially when we say good-bye.

Nobody in war ever dies alone,
on the field, or here at home.
The military knocks at your door,
“I’m sorry, another casualty of war.”

What will ever pay the cost,
for the family that has suffered loss.
When all is given for this nation,
will a medal or citation.

The scars of war are not on the skin,
instead, the heart buried deep within.
Nothing anyone wants to talks about,
never able to pour it out.

We’re never the same as before,
for war cripples our very core.
We may come back in on piece,
but our memories will never cease.

So, for this Monday in the month of May,
take time to reflect and time to pray.
Remembering those who answered freedom’s call,
all gave some, some gave all.

Yet, in the midst of all this despair,
when the world is so unfair.
I find hope for life in only One,
and that is God’s very Son.

He’s the One who cares for me,
without Him, I wouldn’t be.
There’s nothing greater than His Grace,
He’s always there, whatever I face.

So trust Him in all you do,
He will always see you through.
He’ll never allow what you can’t bear,
He’ll shelter you in His Loving Care.

(This poem was originally published in 2014, but due to its popularity, we brought it back this year.)

The Spirit Living In Me

Inspired by the MercyMe song, “Greater.

The same Spirit that lives in Jesus,
is the Spirit living in me.
There is nothing I can’t do,
and nothing I can’t be.

I can do all things,
through Christ, Who strengthens me.
He has paid all of my debt,
and forever set me free.

I am the head,
and not the tail.
Jesus says, “Abide in Me,
and you will never fail.”

He is solid Rock,
on which I stand.
All other ground,
is sinking sand.

He is my Savior,
He’s ever so near.
He erases doubt,
and casts out fear.

He makes the darkness,
ever so bright.
And through Him,
I share the Light.

He makes me succeed,
and fills my destiny.
Because praise and worship,
are the heavenly key.

He forgives me daily,
and removes my sin.
And because of Jesus,
I am guaranteed to win.

So surrender your life,
and live in His love.
And one day, go Home,
to heaven above.
