Happy Birthday Jared!

This poem is dedicated to my grandson, Jared.

Today seems to ring a bell,
but I can’t seem to remember for who.
Maybe if I ask, someone will tell,
then I’ll know what I should do.

I know this fellow that Grandma knows,
she calls him her young man.
And everywhere that Grandma goes,
he’s there to lend a hand.

When she’s goes shopping, he’s by the cart,
he always knows our needs.
He picks and chooses and does his part,
he’s the young man of good deeds.

He comes to the house to look for me,
he searches high & low.
He’s never sure where I might be,
he looks carefully, to and fro.

I’m starting to remember the friend,
who is very special to me.
If I think really hard, again,
I’ll know who that might be.

I remember now, I’m no longer sad,
and today is the day.
I’ll be so happy, and so glad,
to celebrate Jared’s birthday.

May God bless, especially this day,
as he watches over you from above.
May you always, in every way,
feels God’s presence & His love.

How do you feel, since you gained a year,
and have a lot to do.
I hope that you’re happy & full of cheer,
with enough energy for me & you.

So hop out of bed and onto your feet,
time is a ‘wasting, and much to do.
Today is special, and full of treats,
Happy Birthday Jared, with all of our love to you.

The Big 5-0

On August 20, a beautiful summer morn,
a very special lady was born.
A woman designed by God’s own hand,
whose footprints are found throughout the sand.

A woman who’d choose to lay down her life,
and have a husband and be his wife.
A woman who’d fit into God’s own plan,
and walk with Him daily, hand in Hand.

We’ll always weather any storm or gale,
His promises are true and never fail.
Jesus lives within our heart,
we love and praise Him and do our part.

His blessings come throughout the years,
amidst the good times and even through tears.
He entrusted two children into our care,
knowing we’d remember He’s always there.

Think of the years and all you’ve done,
think back to where it all had begun.
Half a century has come to pass,
and you’ve done it all in style and class.

We’re very proud of who you are,
to us, you’re a bright and shining star.
Life’s been a mixture of good and bad,
but after all this time, I’m so glad.

We’ve had this life to spend together,
and I only hope I can make it better.
So may He richly bless you dear,
as you celebrate your 50th year.

I Need Direction

PART ONE

I am crying and crying and no one can tell,
because the tears don’t cause my eyes to swell.
But all is not that simple and easy to hide,
especially the coldness that is growing inside.

Penetrating deep feeling among turmoil & strife,
embarrassing sensitivity, not even shared with my wife.
These feelings are growing more and more, day by day,
and still, the only answer is the spiritual way.

I’m pulled in all directions- north, south, east, & west,
no matter which road, I still find no rest.
Please, again, please, what more can I say,
I can’t even find rest at the end of the day?!

Perhaps if I took time to kneel down and pray,
a door would open & I’d find a way.
Lord, I surrender it all up to You,
so easy to say, yet so hard to do.

PART TWO

One morning’s misreading,
I’ll make up by two.
Soon it became,
more than I could do.

A devotion- a little time spent with the Lord,
found little room with all else aboard.
A fleeting moment to pray, put on my heart,
no time to give in and do my part.

Life’s so encumbered,
by all that surrounds.
The hustle & bustle,
the ups and the downs.

So easy to renew the habits of old and forget,
I don’t know how I drifted round and round.
It’s seems we just talked only yesterday,
the promises of the streets of gold.

Someone has to rescue me from this turmoil and strife,
and put some meaning back into my life.

Gold Streets & Pearly Gates

Jesus is our Lord indeed,
He will meet our every need.
He’s never early & never late,
He’ll lead us to the pearly gate.

The battle’s over and we won,
He paid the price for all our sin.
His living water ever flows,
and washes all our cares and woes.

Hallelujah, praise the Lord,
He’s our Master and our King.
Hallelujah, praise the Lord,
give Him glory for everything.

Stand up now and be strong,
He’s coming back and it won’t be long.
We’ll be with Him finally,
living forever, eternally.

Our needs in Him are always met,
the price was paid for our debt.
A new home is coming with streets of gold,
so live this world and be bold.

Happy 50th, Ed & Vivian

Ed & Vivian, what can I say?
But thank you for allowing us to share this day.
And I pray that these words will touch your heart,
and that I’ve fulfilled His desire and done my part.

I’ve been asked to write words of pure delight,
words to express our feeling this night.
Words to express 50 years and to show,
why they sit there amid a peaceful glow.

In a world that’s full of turmoil & strife,
it’s a blessing to see two hearts full of life.
Lives that have learned to love and to share,
to live for Jesus and trust in His care.

Love based on Jesus residing in your hearts,
not based on feelings, a whim, or a lark.
It’s the love of Jesus that brought this 50th year,
the love of Jesus that deserves applause and cheer.

50 years of memories are very deep in your heart,
I’m thankful the Lord is still doing His part.
The treasures of this life are wondrous to behold,
they are more precious than rubies, finer than gold.

Only you can capture memories so true,
the blessings that God has bestowed upon you.
You can look around and you’ll see,
in everything each other, you and me.

Knowing you both for just a short time,
has been a blessing, purely divine.
A devoted husband, a loving wife,
a shining example of marriage and life.

May God Bless.

A Glimpse of Eternity

The Lord has been gracious,
for He has allowed me to see.
Something very wonderful,
a glimpse of eternity.

I haven’t seen with my own eyes,
but through the Spirit’s view.
And words for me, I do not know,
to describe the majesty do.

It’s more beautiful than you can imagine,
a treasure to behold.
Laid in all its splendor,
magnificent in gold.

It’s stirred a longing in my soul,
it tells me of my Lord and King.
Who reigns above Supreme,
and is in control of everything.

What He has prepared for us,
on the day that He comes back.
Who by the Blood are cleansed,
to make up for what we lack.

It’s stirred a longing in my soul,
to be sure to finish the race.
And remember daily in my prayers,
to thank Him for His grace.

Cupid’s Misfire

Cupid is filling his quiver,
with arrows set to fly.
Valentine’s Day is soon approaching,
and his arrows will fill the sky.

Cupid, though, is getting older,
as the years continue to go by.
His aim is not as steady,
sometimes his arrow goes awry.

This year, he’ll be starting early,
for he has so much to do.
He’ll start the first of February,
shooting arrows of love at you.

February 2 is Groundhog Day,
and it should draw a big crowd.
He could get a lot accomplished,
it would make him very proud.

So, on Groundhog Day,
he made an early appearance.
His quiver was full when he was ready,
and there was a large attendance.

He began to fire his arrows of love,
and everything was going fine.
But, of course one arrow went astray,
and the groundhog was right in line.

He saw his shadow and fell in love,
after being struck by the arrow.
And everywhere he would go,
his love was sure to follow.

Then one day the sky was cloudy,
and his love was gone away.
He searched and searched, but to no avail,
he’d have to wait for a sunny day.

The groundhog lived in Pennsylvania,
his name was Punxsutawney Phil.
He was thinking about retirement,
approaching “over the hill.”

He was a very rich groundhog,
he had absolutely no debt.
He invested wisely in his union,
ask Thor, his union rep.

When the sun came out again,
and Phil’s love was finally back.
He couldn’t remember what day it was,
he had completely lost track.

It was now the 14th of February,
and he hadn’t gotten his lover a gift.
The nearest town was so far away,
to get there, he needed a lift.

He didn’t know what to get,
he hadn’t been in love before.
But he noticed when he entered in,
his love wasn’t with him any more.

You’ll never guess what happened next,
and who was in the store.
Explained everything that was going on,
who else would be such help, but Thor?

So after Phil heard the story,
of all that he’d been through.
He decided on a long retirement,
and boy, it was surely due.

He put in his papers for retirement,
and everyone had an idea for him.
He decided on a long, long, long, retirement,
and he changed his name to Jim.

And if it doesn’t seem to work out,
although it seems like a plan.
He’ll call his friend Bill Murray,
he was Phil’s biggest fan.

Happy Groundhog Day!
