One Has Come

This poem is dedicated to my granddaughter, Ella.

The first year of life,
has its ups and downs.
Sometimes it is full of laughter,
and sometimes, it has frowns.

Time is different on your birthday,
now that you are finally one.
This day is very special,
to be filled entirely with fun.

We’ll have presents and goodies,
cookies, cake, & ice cream too.
But without your teeth,
you’re not able to chew!

This is your first,
and the next is #2.
There will be so much more,
you will be able to do.

Little girls are mommy’s pearls,
multi-colored and shining through.
We do our best to help them grow,
playing games, like peek-a-boo.

Girls are gems we need to polish,
to shine brightly from day to day.
Grandpa & Grandma also help,
to lead and guide along the way.

There’s something special about granddaughters,
that I really can’t explain.
They enter life set on course,
the whole world they have to gain.

But it’s the start of a journey,
and we pray that God sets the course.
Because no better hands can guide,
than the God of all resource.

God knows the path we will travel,
and when we will need a friend.
Because the God of all the universe,
knows the beginning and the end.

God so loved the little children,
not to hinder, but let them come.
They are so precious in His sight,
He knows whom each will become.

50 Years of Lost in Space

This week marks the 50th anniversary of the sci-fi TV series, Lost in Space. To celebrate, here’s a poem highlighting the show’s main protagonist, Dr. Zachary Smith.

The man is nuts,
that is no myth.
The good doctor’s name,
is Zachary Smith.

Man set out to colonize space,
aboard the Jupiter 2.
But Smith, a foreign agent,
plotted to kill the crew.

But the poor man got trapped,
and threw them off balance.
Now hopelessly lost in space,
with nothing but a bit of science.

Hopping from planet to planet,
exploring each alien land.
The Robinsons often in danger,
at Dr. Smith’s selfish hand.

Always plotting and scheming,
some way back to Earth.
He bargains with aliens,
to increase his net worth.

He gets more than he asked for,
and gets into trouble a lot.
Smith isn’t the biggest fan,
of Major West and The Robot.

No matter what planet they land on,
Smith will find a way.
He ignores all the warnings,
and proceeds anyway.

Although declared unstable,
by the Intergalactic Panel.
There’ll be more charades next week,
same time, same channel.

To My Grandchildren

To my grandchildren in honor of Grandparents Day, which is celebrated on September 13.

Grandchildren, may you always be,
blessed by the Father above.
Cradled in His Arms,
and sheltered in His Love.

Every child ever born,
is created in God’s design.
Only the Creator of everything,
can call each child, “Mine.”

He calls the little ones, “Precious,”
because He has a plan for them.
And He brings it all to pass,
time and time again.

When You know the beginning and the end,
all things are in Your control.
God is the very Anchor,
on which we need to hold.

He’s the only One that will never fail,
with Hands and Arms stretched wide.
He’ll never leave or forsake us,
He’s always with us, beside our side.

It matters not, young or old,
love and peace conquer fear.
So look to Jesus, for who He Is,
and always seek to keep Him near.

The Fourteen Machine

To my grandson, Eric John, who turns 14 this week.

The second start of life,
is your 7 teenage years.
It got off to a fantastic start,
as you’ve conquered doubts and fears.

You’ve accomplished some major feats,
which some said, “It can’t be done!”
But through it all, this summer,
you did it! (And still had fun.)

Now, you’re a year older,
and a year wiser, no doubt.
You’re learning more each day,
what life is all about.

We’re Grandpa & Grandma,
and you really make us proud.
You are really something special,
you stand out in a crowd.

May this be a blessed birthday,
as we celebrate with you.
‘Cause when it comes to next year,
I have no idea what we’ll do.

To My Wife

I thank God,
for every day of your life.
I thank God,
that I can call you my wife.

I thank God,
for your spirit of compassion.
I thank God,
for your godly reflection.

I thank God,
for your love and peace.
I thank God,
that your prayers never cease.

I thank God,
that you hold Him near.
I thank God,
He gives you power over fear.

I thank God,
that you hear His Voice.
I thank God,
for your wisdom of choice.

I thank God,
for your forgiving spirit.
I thank God,
that you never quit.

I thank God,
that He cares for you.
I thank God,
He carries you through.

I thank God,
He picks us up when we fall.
I thank God every day,
for His love for you above all.

Starting Over (United in Life)

War is something that seems to never end,
the former is easy to fight and defend.
Open battle, or deep within,
the latter tears your heart, you can’t win.

You hope to outgrow all your trouble and strife,
as you stand shoulder to shoulder, united in life.
But still the war will never be won,
because I stand still, one and one.

I have so much hidden and buried inside,
those parts of life I need to hide.
Those embarrassing moments I don’t want known,
that personality that’s strictly my own.

The character traits that make me unique,
but others may view them and call me weak.
I put up a front of what people can expect,
and live a life of stolen respect.

No one knows the real person you are,
you present your life on even par.
No one knows the hurt that tears you apart,
each day weakening more of your heart.

You yell and scream for someone to hear,
hoping against hope because of the fear.
That one day you may have to remove the wall,
and on that day, experience the fall.

I sit and cry, alone in my tears,
but life hasn’t changed through the years.
Change must come by God’s mercy and grace,
or I’ll never get to see his shining face.

I have to surrender and give up my whole,
and remember that it’s God who’s in control.
Everything He does works out for good,
and in His holiness, it surely would.

He would never go against my free will,
He payed my ransom on Calvary’s Hill.
Now the Holy Spirit can live and abide,
I have no reason to continue to hide.

“So Lord,” I ask, “and continue to pray,
help, so my choices are the Way.
Take my life from this moment on,
let my past be forgiven and gone.”

Praise and worship to my Lord and King,
“You are my purpose for everything.
Lord, I surrender, renew my heart,
from this day forward, a brand new start.”

The Importance of Prayer

The alarm clock goes off and what’s the use,
I’m tired, but a voice says, “That’s no excuse.”
It’s time to get up and begin a new day,
so down on your knees and begin to pray.

Refreshing the Lord within my heart,
asking for strength to do my part.
In all of life’s stormy weather,
with the Lord at my side, We do it together.

Pour forth your Spirit, Almighty God we pray,
that I may be touched in my soul today.
I need His guidance in all that I do,
that in everything, I may glorify You.

For it’s only by Your love and power,
that We have each cherished hour.
So let’s not waste a moment more,
Pour, sweet Spirit, pour.

You are the Lord of lords and King of kings,
Lord, You are my everything.
Without You Lord, I don’t exist,
help me Lord, to not resist.

You are to me the Source of Life,
You are the Blessing I find within my wife.
You are the Steadfast Help in a time of need,
You are the Eternal Hope in Whom I feed.

As I walk in the valley ever so low,
I trust in the Lord wherever I go.
Surrounded on each side by walls of land,
covered in time by God’s own hand.

A valley so humble and truly unique,
a place of solace, a glorious retreat.
So Lord, always keep me in Your care,
and one day in eternity, I will be there.
