Tools of the Trade

My boss is a Jewish carpenter,
the ultimate Master of all of His tools.
He wants us all to be His students,
doers of His Word, and be not fools.

Sandpaper, foundation, wood, & joust,
a hammer, saw, plane, & a screw.
T-square, plumb line, level, & drill,
tool belt holding- tape measure & glue.

All are needed believe it or not,
when Jesus becomes your focus in life.
He teaches and prepares us with all we need,
to face the world and all of its strife.

Sandpaper is first to be applied,
to a heart that is rough and scarred with sin.
Sanding with the blood of Jesus Christ,
that’s smooth and cleanses your heart within.

After the sanding, we need to begin
a firm foundation of prayer & talk.
The foundation’s our grounding in the Word,
knowledge of the Truth to strengthen our walk.

After the foundation is laid & set,
the Word is framed & raised up high.
Building a shelter in time of storm,
with walls that reach to Heaven’s sky.

The wood is strong, but can’t stand alone,
it needs the joust to anchor the frame.
Just as we can’t stand alone,
the Holy Spirit supports Glory to Jesus’ Name.

Holding the joust firm to the wood,
the nails are hammered deep & true.
Reminding us of the gracious Cross,
where our Savior bled for me & you.

The saw then trims those extra pieces,
that causes us to stumble & fall.
The plane then tune the jagged edges,
which blocks us from serving our Master’s call.

Before the frame is put in order,
distance is measured, it’s leveled & set.
Just as the Spirit gives us balance,
and reminds us that He’s not finished yet.

T-square makes sure that the joints are perfect,
so everything fits right into place.
It’s by the Fruits of the Holy Spirit,
each day we are able to show forth His grace.

So take the plumb line & have it fall,
and guide your life along it’s track.
But if you stumble & fall off course,
our Loving Savior will help you back.

Pick up your tool belt and all of your tools,
take some steps back and have a look.
See your work & all you’ve done,
and thank the Lord that you followed the Book.

So look to the Day (and it won’t be long,)
when the Master calls all carpenters yonder.
On that day we’ll get our Master’s degree,
and through His City eternally wander.

Happy Birthday Jared!

This poem is dedicated to my grandson, Jared.

I knew a wee little man once,
and I remember that he was 3+2.
He had so much energy,
there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.

He travels around the country now,
and he’ll stop for a geography bee.
And before you know it, he’s off again,
you’ll find him on TV!

He packed a lot of living,
in all his years alive.
His future is planned, big and bright,
and in his state, he can drive!

I have a clock in my kitchen,
that doesn’t do an hourly chime.
But, instead it reminds me,
“Grandma & Grandpa, I love you all the time!”

TV has given him an opportunity,
to share what he does fine.
And if you check out Here Comes the Shrink,
you’ll find what else is on his mind.

He has me write a poem for every holiday,
he posts my poems when right.
So now here’s one for his birthday,
good from morning to night.

We are so proud of all he’s done,
in just a few short years of living.
We look to what the future holds,
as he continues sharing & giving.

Friendship

The developing of a friendship,
is sometimes a surprise.
It truly isn’t valued,
’til it’s time to say good-bye.

Then the times are thought about,
the good times & the bad.
The times of disagreement,
but more so, the times when we were glad.

Four years is not a lifetime,
but the Lord has blessed its growth.
it’s in His tender, nurtured care,
sealed as an unspoken oath.

The time of closeness has come to an end,
it’s time for us to part.
But God has blessed me graciously,
He placed you in my heart.

He’s bound us together with unbreakable cord,
the cord of His precious Love.
The friendship we’ve developed,
is blessed from the Father above.

No matter where our service may lead,
in any storm or weather.
I thank the Lord Whose care we’re in,
for He brought us both together.

Why?

A companion poem to “Flying Home.”

As I walk through beginning,
of Creation, I shall see.
There my precious Jesus,
with His arms outstretched to me.

As I approach Him standing there,
I’ll see the Smile on His face.
I’ll know that He’s waited patiently,
to hold me in His embrace.

All my questions I once had,
no longer are important to me.
I’ve run the race, and won my crown,
I’m home for eternity.

Everywhere I look, I see,
such mighty souls of God.
Whose adoration is in one accord,
before the throne of God.

I’m crying now, such tears of joy,
as my soul joins in the praise.
For all that was ever done for me,
is now for all eternity.

Flying Home

A companion poem to “Why?

As I walk to the beginning,

Jesus, Jesus, I want to be with you.
Jesus, Jesus, I know you’ll come back soon.
Jesus, Jesus, I want to hold your hand.
Walk along the beach, see our footprints in the sand.

You’ve taught me by your Holy Word,
to live my life for Thee.
You’ve guided & directed,
now I’m yours for eternity.

Jesus, I can’t thank You,
for all that you have done.
But by Your Holy Spirit,
victory has been won.

Jesus, Jesus, I want to be with you.
Jesus, Jesus, I know you’ll come back soon.
Jesus, Jesus, I want to hold your hand.
Walk along the beach, see our footprints in the sand.

I’m home at last and in Your care,
full of joy & peace and praise for Thee.
You’ve held me close for all the years,
my soul’s complete & fully free.

I finally understand your love for me,
as I stand before your throne.
To finally see your loving face,
and know I’m really home.

Jesus, Jesus, I want to be with you.
Jesus, Jesus, I know you’ll come back soon.
Jesus, Jesus, I want to hold your hand.
Walk along the beach, see our footprints in the sand.

The Cleft of His Rock

You are compassionate,
with a contrite heart.
Called by the Lord,
and set apart.

Your words are wisdom,
and spirit fed.
Encouragement & power,
in everything said.

All authority & power,
are in Your grasp.
Through the power of prayer,
when you ask.

Stand in His power,
and His might.
We’re guaranteed to win,
in every fight.

We are the sheep of His pasture,
and part of His flock.
Embraced & sheltered,
in the cleft of His Rock.

So take heart in Him,
& trust today.
He is the Truth, the Light,
and the Way.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A day of celebration,
of what the world calls love.
Based upon it’s feeling,
a Cupid, candy, flower, type love.

But where does love come from?
It’s really a matter of the heart.
Nothing else but God is love,
and with Him, love has it’s start.

Who is my valentine?
What does he mean to me?
My valentine is the King of kings,
His blood has set me free!

He’s taken all my cares and lows,
and lifted them off my back.
Should I ever have a need,
He makes sure I never lack.

His love for me is greater,
than mine can ever be.
His love is pure and open,
for all the world to see.

Love is the very character of God,
not a feeling or emotion.
It never changes from moment to moment,
never alters His devotion.

His love is an anchor in a storm,
when the world sets you adrift.
His loving arms will reach you,
whenever you need a lift.

A love so pure and so true,
can only be agape love.
‘Cause God does not restrict to us,
what He sends down from above.

No one can give you agape love,
not even your closest friend.
Only God never changes,
it began, but will never end.

Once again, I ask you,
who is your valentine?
I hope you choose our Lord,
I made the choice: He’s mine!
