ELLA “9”

Time for a Happy Birthday

My granddaughter is turning nine

Getting bigger and better

And with me that’s fine.

We will celebrate all week long

With so much to do each day

Especially time at the bowling alley

As we have time and play.

Chris can’t wait to meet you Ella

I’ve told him so much about you

And your accomplishments in bowling

A 300 maybe he can do.

Grammy and Papa can’t wait to see you

And celebrate your birthday

We miss you so very much

Especially when you are so far away.

We will make the most of this week

I hope you have a list to do

And bowling will be a big part

Because we want this birthday week for you.

So, Happy Birthday Ella

May this be a blessed year

And we will have cake and ice cream

To celebrate Birthday cheer.

I love you! Papa

DEANNA “47”

Every year you come closer

To that magic number fifty

It’s not a number to fear

It’s really kind of nifty.

You’ve packed a lot of living

Into Forty-Seven years of life

With all the knowledge you’ve acquired

Being a nurse and mother prayer and wife.

I think back to when I was forty seven

I can’t recall it at all

Maybe someday it will come back to me

Hopefully before I forget it all.

I’m so proud of what you’ve done

And proud of who you are

And in my book of life

You are a shining star.

I hope your day is filled with life

And you get to have your heart’s delight

And finally, all tucked into bed

You have a wonderful and blessed night.

So, enjoy the day with all it brings

It only comes but once a year

And I wish you blessing upon blessing

And hope you have everything you hold dear.

I love you! Dad

Happy Birthday, Gale

This poem is dedicated to my wife, Gale, who turns 72 this year.

Happy Birthday is a time for cheer
As you celebrate another year
Friends and family all gather around
Where love and friendship are always found.

When you started your journey years ago
How many years you didn’t know
Whatever God has set in stone
These are the years we have on loan.

Life is full of many tasks
And each has the time it lasts
We celebrate getting older and wiser
We walk, ride a bike and then a driver.

Sometimes we’re happy sometimes sad
But life is good not all bad
God wants us not lost but found
But through life heaven bound.

So, enjoy this day and all it brings
Thanking the Lord the King of Kings
Look to the years yet to come
May they always be filled with joy and fun.

Many memories throughout the years
Some brought smiles some tears
But if I could do it all over again
I’d still want you my wife and friend.

Nine Room House

Nine rooms encompass my heart
And each room is a separate part
My first room is a room of love
Which only comes from God above.

To be shared and passed on to others
To support and uphold my sisters and brothers
A love that only God can give
To strengthen the life we have to live.

Room two is a room filled with joy
Given freely for all to enjoy
It’s a fruit that’s filled with various pleasures
And passing it on stores up treasures.

The joy of the Lord is my strength
And it never ends in length
It goes on and on in all we do
From God through His Spirit from Him to you.

Room three is a room that’s filled with peace
Poured out from God that will not cease
It’s your heart in the right place
And it meets any obstacle we may face.

It gives a comfort only God can give
It carries us over just like a bridge
The peace of God is like a river
And it’s powerful when God is the giver.

Room four is the room that’s filled with goodness
Which we can be because of God’s holiness
Because the Spirit that lives in us
Also was the Spirit in Jesus

Goodness helps to spread a smile
It goes on mile after mile
It’s greater than a very close friend
It’s fruit God gives that will never end.

Room five is filled with self-control
A fruit that’s precious for our heart and soul
It gives us wisdom that we don’t see
It teaches that it’s not about me.

It teaches us to control our tongue
No matter if we’re old or young
It teaches us to curb all we see
Because not everything is good for you and me.

Room six is filled with a spirit of gentleness
It’s not weak but godly boldness
A gentle spirit can turn away wrath
And it keeps us moving along the right path.

Jesus was gentle from the moment of birth
And gentle throughout His walk on earth
He was gentle but a man of power
And in times of trouble He’s our strong tower

Room seven is filled with meekness
A humble spirit even in times of stress
Jesus was humble in every way
As He walked through life from day to day.

Meekness is not weakness as people think
It’s strong and powerful like a chain link
It’s always available whatever the need
It’s a treasured fruit on which to feed.

This room is the number eight
It is a room full of faith
Belief that God is in control
And God is constantly on patrol.

Faith is measured out to every soul
Exactly what we need to remain whole
It carries us through thick and thin
Faith is belief that in God we win.

Room nine is filled with long suffering
Patiently waiting for life’s changing
Not worried about incompetence or delay
You’re willing to wait come what may.

When you choose the line in the store
Think it could be a God given detour
Never hurry to be on your way
You many miss a chance to witness today.

These are the rooms within a heart
Now you see each room has a part
They make us how God wants us to be
Because He died to set us free.

The Elephant

An elephant in a laundry basket
Is really quite a sight
I don’t know how she lifted it
Because elephants aren’t light.

A fellow in the group
Gave him the name Eugene
I would have named him Bubbles
Because he didn’t look heavy and mean.

We’ve yet to figure out
Why Eugene got in the basket
I think he got stuck
Playing hide and seek and had no camouflage kit.

Maybe the lady was trying
To find him a better place
He couldn’t walk around
And leave footprints to trace.

Maybe he was waiting
For all the wash to fold
Because he was looking
For a bed out of the cold.

Whatever the reason
The picture did seem odd
The picture was missing someone
With fishing gear and rod.

But looking at all involved
And seeing how everything goes
I think a nickname for Bubbles
Should be Twinkle Toes.

A Day Off

This day has come
And you need to rest
You can’t go on
And be your best.

The days are short
And the hours long
And with that the case
You can’t be strong.

So, this weekend
Without question or doubt
You’ll be able to relax
That’s all you’ll be about.

I will care for everything
Including your best friend
If it’s the last thing I do
And it may be the end.

I want you to be off
Rest and regroup
Taking care of kids and house
Has thrown you for a loop.

So, sleep late in the morning
And I’ll do my best
I’m sure I am capable
To pass the test.

You need to rest
With all that’s coming up
So, sit back and relax
With your coffee cup.

I’m able to do
Whatever needs to be done
Just watch me
It will be fun.

I’m your butler, chauffer and maid
For whatever you need to do
I’m on your beck and call
Just tell me I’m here for you.

I love you.

A Happy Anniversary

Oh how I wish life was different
And filled with love and peace
Be the person Gods called me to be
And cause selfish desires to cease.

I need to surrender everything
And lay it all down
Remember that God is king
It is He who wears the crown.

The love that Christ has for the church
I wish that love was in me
Then I would truly realize
That God has set me free.

I know I’ve failed many times
And frustrated you to no end
That’s not how I want to be
I want you to be my friend.

The road is long strait and narrow
And we are stronger side by side
And if I put my faith in Him
He’ll change my heart of pride.

I need to apologize
For I have a bitter heart
But as you can forgive me
I’d like to make a fresh start.

Start something that will last
Something tried, trusted and true
Forget about our trouble and disappointment
And make it better for me and you.

This is not a poem of celebration
But it truly needs to be
With all the trouble we’ve gone through
It’s a miracle there is still a you and me.

You know I’m a slow learner
And it’s been forty-seven years
But God hasn’t given up
He’s still working on my doubts and fears.

So, I wish you Happy Anniversary
I hope it touches your heart
And from this point forward
With God’s help I will live up to my part.
