Years of Adventure

This poem is dedicated to my grandson Jared, who turns 18 this week.

The third and final milestone,
of the teenage years,
calls for an ovation,
and many birthday cheers.

Years ago you would be,
considered of legal age.
But times have changed,
now it’s no longer the gauge.

The world says now you must attain,
the future age of twenty-one.
Then you will finally be ready,
to go out and have some fun.

But still yet it changes again,
now you must be twenty-six.
And as for now, I think that’s the age,
when you finally enter the worldly mix.

We’ve been to many different places,
and thrice to Myrtle Beach,
where Putt-Putt Champion,
was within everyone’s reach.

Myrtle Beach had a thunder and lightning storm,
and Grandma got locked out.
Jay was trying to photograph lightning,
he and Jen didn’t know Grandma wasn’t about.

Jared and I found her,
when we came up from the pool.
We had the keycard to enter the room,
we thought that was cool.

Atlanta has also been the town,
we visited more and more.
The aquarium and old Turner Field,
it never became a bore.

The World of Coke a favourite,
we’ve visited more than once.
And drank a world of Coke,
every ounce by ounce.

We even went to Georgia to eat,
at a very special place.
The diner was crowded, we had to wait,
but five turkey dinners set the pace.

We’ve been to the mall with NASCAR,
and battled from dusk ’til dawn.
Jay and Jared beat McMurray,
it was simple, like a yawn.

You never get to go to some places,
you really want to go.
But all in all I think you’re happy,
in the places we got to know.

If it wasn’t for your knowledge,
I would not have this site.
To offer words of encouragement,
and share Jesus’ glorious Light.

We have a better choice to make,
and isn’t it a great thing to know:
we live in the world but are not part of it,
and we’re planted in Christ to grow.

And age is not the criteria,
it’s not on how our life is selected.
It’s our faith in Jesus Christ,
living for Him, that we elected.

The world may seem glorious,
but it has no credibility.
Only living in Christ,
is a guarantee for eternity.

Your choice has been made,
and the future looks bright.
You’ll never walk in darkness,
Jesus is Eternal Light.

So happy birthday Jared,
I’m glad you’re on the right track.
Enjoy the day, it’s special for you,
your future is ahead, never look back.

You And Me

Love is a very special gift,
it has a quality of its own.
It gives that inner peace and sweetness,
that makes a heart a home.

Through knowledge and eyes of others,
who may paint a pretty portrait.
But the quality of the personal touch,
still manages to escape.

Through the gift of love and grace of God,
we call our mate our friend.
To share, to care, and to pray it through,
from the beginning to the end.

Many years,
may seem like forever.
In God’s eyes,
each year’s a treasure.

Somewhere during,
that span of time,
we’ve come to know,
our Saviour Devine.

And by the power,
of the Holy Ghost,
we raise our voices,
with the Heavenly Host.

And thank the Lord,
for the Word’s begun,
as He blends our two hearts,
to work as one.

Just a thoughtful,
little way,
to help you,
brighten your day.

And put a smile,
on your face,
in spite of,
this place.

A sweet-smelling,
little bouquet,
to brighten a dismal,
rainy day.

And tell you how precious,
you’ll always be.
By the burning you’ve kindled,
deep inside of me.

I love you more today,
than any day before.
And may we grow closer each day,
more and more.

And I’ll see what life can be,
together, united,
as one,
you and me.

How do you say good-bye?

My friend was 97,
looking forward to 98.
She had all her faculties,
she was doing great.

We talked last Tuesday,
when I gave her a book to read.
Asked her how she was doing,
was there anything she might need?

She said she was fine,
and was going to watch the news.
She had dinner cooking on the stove,
she seemed okay, I had no clues.

But my wife always knew,
when Santa was up and about.
They had a secret code,
which left no doubt.

When the shades were open,
she knew Santa was okay.
But the shades weren’t open,
on that very Wednesday.

It makes me think how life is short,
and I’ve held bitterness towards my brothers.
I never want to be like that again,
I want to be at peace with others.

Santa called me her eldest son,
and worried about Gale & I, always on the run.
She always asked when we would stop,
or when we’d finally be done.

I’ve learned how precious friendship is,
and each day to end with a good-bye.
I know the day will finally come,
when I’ll take time to sit and cry.

Six Steps Down

Heaven is high above the Earth,
and we seek it for all it’s worth.
Father, Son, & Holy Ghost,
the Trinity with the heavenly Host.

But because of God’s Love,
He sent Jesus from above.
A bloody sacrifice to pay for sin,
a battle man could never win.

Jesus left his Holy Throne,
so in life we’re not alone.
Only Jesus could prepare the way,
so we’d be free from sin today.

It took six steps from heaven to earth,
and four completed before His birth.
He gave up his divine form,
to rescue us from a sin-filled storm.

All He had to do before His ministry,
to pay for sin and set man free.
He emptied Himself of any rights,
He fasted 40 days and 40 nights.

He became a man,
according to the Father’s plan.
He opened the door for a crooked and perverse generation,
to redeem the world through salvation.

He had no desire for worldly fame,
God and human, one and the same.
He took on the role of a servant,
He came to renew God’s covenant.

He willingly gave up his very breath,
He was obedient to the point of death.
The only sacrifice that could make a way,
His precious blood covered all sin that day.

He died a terrible death, enduring the cross,
it was all for gain and not a loss.
Jesus what was impossible for man,
six steps down, God’s merciful plan.

Tipping Point

Do you lean more towards God,
or more towards the world?
Do you find time for praise and worship,
or too busily involved with the world’s hardships?

If so busy, you’ll always have problems,
no matter how you choose to face life.
Problems just seem to evolve,
solve them and they still don’t dissolve.

You’ll always have more on your plate,
than it’s able to hold.
You never catch up with all you do,
and you feel like it’s burying you.

You think you can do it on your own,
but the world just overpowers you.
You try your best, but the world is tough,
and your determination just isn’t enough.

So how do you solve this dilemma,
and come up with a victory?
It all goes back to the tipping point,
and it’s time for change, and God to anoint.

Leaning the other way,
opens doors of opportunity.
You face life, and you’re not alone,
you have an open line to the Throne.

Life is not your burden to carry,
live in Jesus- He’s made a better Way.
Jesus says His yoke is easy, His burden light,
step out of the darkness of the night.

He washes you in His cleansing blood,
and from that point, He forgives and forgets your past.
Your life is changed, it’s now brand new,
Jesus suffered the Cross, He died for me and you.

So which way would you like,
the tipping point of life to lean?
You could remain stuck in the miry clay,
or accept Jesus and start a brand new day.

Jesus will never force you,
the choice is yours to make.
But He will set you free,
where you’d rather be for eternity.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Happy Valentine’s Day,
straight from my heart.
May the days be many,
we will never part.

I could never thank you,
for all that you do.
But I can pray that God,
will truly bless you.

Make your days bright,
and full with the Son.
As you walk in the fullness,
of the Holy One.

May He always hold you,
so close and so dear.
That you feel His safety,
and never fear.

My love for you,
will never compare.
To the love of Jesus,
that His love for you, I share.

So happy Valentine’s Day,
straight from my heart.
May the days be many,
we will never part.

Make Time

High on the cliff, over jagged rocks I stand,
away from the peace of the Promised Land.
The storm has caused a fierce raging sea,
one step forward allows it to swallow me.

Life’s so encumbered by all that surrounds,
the hustle, the bustle, the ups and the downs.
So easy to renew the habits of old,
I don’t know how I’ve become so cold.

I’m crying and crying and no one can tell,
because the tears don’t cause my eyes to swell.
But all is not that simple and easy to hide,
especially the coldness that’s grown inside.

I’m pulled all directions: north, south, east, and west,
no matter which road, I still find no rest.
Please, again please, what more can I say?
I can’t even find rest at the end of the day.

It seems we just talked, only yesterday,
the promises of the streets of gold today.
Someone has to rescue me from this turmoil & strife,
and put some meaning back into my life.

A devotion, a little time spent with the Lord,
found little room, with all else aboard.
A fleeting moment to pray, put on my heart,
no time to give in and do my part.

One mornings’ missed reading,
I’ll make up by two.
Soon it became,
more than I could do.

Perhaps if I took time and knelt down to pray,
a door would open and I’d find a way.
Lord, I surrender it all up to you,
so easy to say, yet so hard to do.

I need your help ’til the day I come home,
I know I can’t do anything on my own.
Not for the fact that I would lose control,
Jesus I need Your Hand to hold.
