It won’t be midnight…

I must be getting old,
my kids are all over 40.
Married, family, and kids,
a thing of beauty.

Happy birthday, Deanna,
it’s been quite a journey so far.
It’s had its ups and downs,
but you came through a shining star.

With age, you gain wisdom,
and you need all you can get.
Because three kids can be hard,
not only three, but also a pet.

But Deanna, you’ve been great,
balancing all of life.
You’ve lived up to all the trials,
a loving mother and terrific wife.

I hope you have a lovely birthday,
when it comes this Wednesday.
May you celebrate the way you want,
making it the most memorable day.

You’re very special in my heart,
and you have a flair for the Word.
It seems like the entire family,
makes the sweetest sound I’ve heard.

I know times are very busy,
but I look forward to seeing you.
This year will not be midnight,
when 41 becomes new.

So happy birthday I say again,
may God richly bless you.
May the day be bright and cheery,
in everything you do.

Ella, “3”

Ella Vivian Goodman is now three,
she is getting bigger, we can see.
As we celebrate this birthday year,
may everyone give roaring cheer.

Ella has given out a pet name,
and not-a-one is the same.
If my name was Bob,
I could understand “nutjob”.

Grandma is very simple,
she calls her “Grammy”, smile and dimple.
Mommy got the name “popcorn”,
puffed or kernel of corn.

Jared she calls “wawa”,
I can’t understand and say “aha”!
Daddy she calls “lima bean”,
but he’s not green- know what I mean?

She also calls me “papa”,
a shorter version of Grandpa.
But this is all part of Ella’s world,
as it’s mixed and twirled.

So as we celebrate age 3,
we’ll see what the future will be.
She’s talking more and running the show,
we follow wherever she will go.

Happy birthday, Ella,
as Grandma calls you “Ella Bella”.
We look forward to year four,
I’m sure we’ll be in for so much more.

By my grandson, Eric Greco.

It was an average day,
also somewhat fun.
Anticipation was everywhere,
as the World Trade Center was almost done.

People went to work,
kids went out to play.
But soon enough, in time,
there would be nothing to say.

Planes were flying undetected,
known location was none.
Eventually we all would know,
because people began to run.

A plane had hit the North Tower,
so now a plane was found.
But people knew it was no accident,
another plane was inbound.

BOOM!!! went the second plane,
both hit within the hour.
Fear was widely spread around,
it wasn’t just the towers.

An explosion at a government base,
a portion of it was gone.
The government went to DEFCON 3,
the plane had hit the Pentagon.

The South Tower was the second hit,
the North Tower was the first.
What happened next was unbelievable,
it was just the worst.

The South Tower had given way,
could not support the weight.
It collapsed and killed so many people,
they had no escape.

Next was the North to collapse that day,
could not deny it’s fate.
More people died and could not stop,
the group called Al-Qaeda’s hate.

One more plane was set to hit,
the location was unclear.
The plane never hit and here is why,
these people saved many tears.

The passengers knew what was going on,
react was what they would do.
Calling their families and saying good-bye,
these heroes saved me and you.

All of the heroes stormed the cockpit,
hijackers were revealed.
Many tried but could not control,
the plane crashed in a field.

So this I tell you, again and again,
don’t cry and do not let,
the sadness overtake your body,
please NEVER FORGET.

Who is Grandma?

God leads her wisdom,
impressed by God’s heavenly kingdom.
On the path of righteousness,
she offers you nothing less.

Reliable to the very end,
she is our greatest friend.
Always available for every need,
she prays and follows God’s lead.

Attentive to God’s still small voice,
wants always your best choice.
She listens with a caring ear,
always trying to erase all fear.

Negative only when needed,
keeping you from becoming wearied.
Support in everything you do,
she loves and cares so much for you.

Diligent, rigorous, in all her tasks,
passing on from God what she asks.
She is careful about how valuable you are,
her grandchildren are set at a higher bar.

Merciful because God is mercy and love,
and all good things come from above.
She cares for each and every one,
she calls all His daughter and son.

Adorable as grandma with child by her side,
she’s proud in Whom they all abide.
So give to grandma all that’s due,
for all the prayers she offered for you.

Eric John “16”

Sixteen is the second milestone,
that happens in the teenage years.
And that’s more than enough,
to call for birthday cheers.

Eric John, you’re getting older,
bigger and taller too.
I can see changes in your life,
as God takes care of you.

One day you may be a poet,
even better than I’ve been.
You write deep on thought,
and that’s the way to win.

You seem to be branching out,
with many more things to do.
I really enjoyed putt-putt golf,
it was fun spending time with you.

One day we’ll do something else,
and leave the phone at home!
We’ll concentrate on what we do,
just you and me alone.

We’ll still have to have lunch,
or maybe after-school dinner.
The school year doesn’t leave much time,
but on vacation you’ll be a winner.

I’m so happy to celebrate your birthday,
even though you’ll be away.
I know you’ll have something special,
with the family on Tuesday.

So I’ll see you when you get back,
we have a score to settle.
One of us will be the winner,
but I know it will be a battle.

Happy Birthday

In the Box, Or Out!

Where would you like to be,
in the box or out?
God has given everyone the choice,
He will support you, no doubt.

Are you accustomed to change,
or does it fill you with fears?
You close the box tighter,
and plug up your ears.

You want the days all the same,
from sunrise to sunset.
You want no cares or worries,
and you don’t want to fret.

But is that all there is to life,
a box: four walls, ceiling, a floor?
Life needs to be expanded,
God meant it for so much more.

He wants us to stretch,
and reach for the stars.
Break through the walls,
and destroy the bars.

To be a person of influence,
a leader after God’s own heart.
Reach beyond worldly limits,
be a true man of God, set apart.

A box is not for confining a life,
but a box is for wrapping a present.
It could be a box from one to one,
or it could be something heaven-sent.

God wants only the best for His children,
He desires to pour blessing upon blessing.
God’s promises are Yea and Amen,
promises: never fail, no guessing.

And every one pertains to us,
as we walk life through.
And shows how much He cares,
and all that He will do.

God’s plans for us are great,
we can be what He wants us to be.
We are children of God,
descendants of His family tree.

Each and every one of us,
are given potential and talent.
God knows our life and plans,
wants us not to be absent.

So get out of the box,
destroy it so you can’t return.
Live your life out to the full,
trusting God always, and never turn.

God will never fail,
He’s proven it, time and time again.
He’ll carry us through each day,
from beginning to end.

Seek God and He will answer,
He promises you’ll never be alone.
He’s the foundation of your life,
He is life’s cornerstone.

Open the Door

May I be the messenger,
to change hopelessness to hope.
And serves for Jesus Christ,
who gives peace for us to cope.

His Word is power and strength,
He renews our lives each day.
When we speak it out loud,
we keep the enemy at bay.

He gives wisdom to all who ask,
and patience, if that’s the need.
He never leaves or forsakes us,
and His example will always lead.

He helps us to shine,
darkness diminished by His glorious Light.
And the more we walk with Him,
the more we shine so bright.

God doesn’t work from the outside in,
He works from the inside out.
He renews and refreshes our heart,
as we learn what He is about.

God has given us a free will,
so serving Him is our choice.
And all we need to do,
is ask Him with our voice.

It’s not a major climatic event,
it’s simple in what you do.
God’s love will never fail,
He is always faithful and true.

Jesus stands at the door and knocks,
surrender your heart and open the door.
Jesus will clean up your life,
with Him, you won’t need any more.
